The Honorable John Henshaw
RE: ASSE Support for Current NACOSH Members
Dear Assistant Secretary Henshaw:
The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) would like to reiterate the Society's strong support for two current members of the National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH). Margaret Carroll and Rixio Medina have both excelled in their roles on the Committee and should be given the opportunity to continue to serve.
We understand that your office may be undertaking a review of NACOSH membership. If so, we are confident that you will join us in helping see that these two safety professionals continue on NACOSH. While both are ASSE members in good standing, most important is that these safety professionals have the wide-ranging professional experience, ability and integrity to represent the interests of the public and the safety profession in providing advice to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
As you well know, ASSE's commitment to workplace protection of people, property and the environment includes helping ensure that the decisions made by federal safety agencies like OSHA reflect the expertise and experience readily available in the safety profession. Entities like NACOSH are important in helping OSHA maintain the best focus on occupational safety and health, and members should include highly experienced safety professionals.
Ms. Carroll and Mr. Medina are two such individuals. A review of their enclosed credentials will demonstrate why they warrant the continued opportunity to serve on NACOSH. OSHA would be hard pressed to find individuals with more professional knowledge and experience in occupational safety and health.
Thank you for your time and consideration. If we may be of any further assistance or provide additional information, please do not hesitate to contact the Society.
Mark D. Hansen, PE, CSP
