Prevention Through Design Standard Provides Foundation for First ASSE LearnEx Course

More OSH professionals are working with prevention through design (PTD) initiatives and ANSI/ASSE Z590.3-2011 (R2016), Prevention Through Design: Guidelines for Addressing Occupational Hazards and Risks in Design and Redesign Processes.

ASSE also continues to receive many requests for professional development initiatives addressing PTD. To meet that need, ASSE will offer its first fully online course, Prevention Through Designbeginning Oct. 15. Designed around the Z590.3 standard, a copy of which is included with the course, the course will be taught by Georgi Popov, Ph.D., QEP, SMS, CMC, a professor at University of Central Missouri.

The course is being offered through ASSE LearnEx. The new program offers a completely online experience with the same educational benefits as the Society's in-person courses. Attendees receive the same level of course content and educational engagement, but can learn at their own pace anywhere an Internet connection is available.

“Our members have been asking for online educational opportunities, and LearnEx delivers,” says Keisha Raines, ASSE’s manager, online education. “Many employers want to support the educational needs of their OSH professionals, but want to avoid the added cost of travel and related expenses, which can be a particular concern for our international customers. LearnEx offers a way to mitigate those concerns while still providing the same caliber of educational content that customers expect from ASSE.”
