Fourteen-year-old Hayley Lemens of Pendleton, Ore., is soft-spoken and shy. She always has been, according to her mom, Jeanie, who says her daughter — a straight-A student who's involved in everything from dance and music to swimming and Girl Scouts — often struggles socially because she's so reserved.

"Hayley's always been pretty quiet," Lemens says, "which makes it really hard for her to meet new people and make new friends."

Lately, however, that's been changing. And so has Hayley, who's been raising her hand more often in the classroom and speaking up more loudly outside it. Lemens attributes some of her daughter's development to adolescence. Much of it, however, she credits to the Des Plaines, Ill.-based American Society of Safety Engineers, which sponsors an annual poster contest — the ASSE Kids' "Safety-on-the-Job" Poster Contest — that Hayley won this year. ... more

WHAT:

As a sponsor you have an opportunity to be part of a growing program that:

NAOSH event kick-off activities at the Smithsonian, the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Capitol on Monday, May 3, 2010, with 100s of attendees including ASSE members, winners of the ASSE Kid’s ‘Safety-on-the-Job’ poster contest, their parents and friends, NAOSH/OSHP partners, corporate and federal officials
  • company recognition at the ASSE Region III Brunch Sunday, May 2 at the National Zoo for the ASSE poster contest winners/participants, their families, ASSE members and NAOSH partners

  • your logo will be displayed not only on the items you designate, but also on the ASSE NAOSH web page and links along with other materials on NAOSH/OSHP distributed worldwide
  • at the annual ASSE Professional Development Conference in Baltimore, MD, in June 2010
  • during the ASSE 100th year celebrations beginning in January 2011

HOW:

Your organization can be a part of these NAOSH/OSHP events in many ways such as:

  • providing NAOSH poster contest t-shirts (about 500)
  • event mementos such as NAOSH pens, mouse pads, tote bags and more (about 1000) – in 2008 the Red Cross donated individual emergency aid kits and in 2009 sponsored a free disaster preparation web-expo
  • sponsoring the NAOSH 2010 annual poster which goes out to thousands of businesses worldwide
  • sponsor poster contest winners and their families’ trip to Washington, D.C., for the ASSE awards program on Monday, May 3 at the U.S. Capitol and the May 2 ASSE Region III NAOSH brunch to be held at the National Zoo
  • sponsor the U.S. Capitol refreshments
  • sponsor the Trolley transportation in D.C. for the May 4 NAOSH kick-off events
  • and other opportunities

From $200 to $50,000 or more your company or organization could become a NAOSH/OSHP Sponsor.
The focus of NAOSH Week 2010 is "Mission NAOSH 201: Working Safe”.  ASSE's 32,000 + members are occupational safety, health and environmental professionals committed to protecting people, property and the environment. Help us get the word out.
