Outstanding Student Section Award

The Outstanding Student Section Award recognizes and encourages the activities of established ASSE Student Section and honors the Section making the most significant contributions toward the advancement of excellence in safety education and research.

Honorarium/Award

A $6,000 award and plaque is presented to the school in honor of the selected Student Section.

Student Sections who meet the Annual Minimum Criteria, but do not win the Outstanding Student Section of the Year Award will receive $500 from the American Society of Safety Engineers. These awards are sponsored by ASSE for all the hard work that our student sections do.

Annual Minimum Requirements

Student Section publishes a newsletter at least 4 times during the academic year.
 
Student Section sends at least one representative to a minimum of 2 parent-chapter General Membership or Executive Committee meetings per year.
 
Student Section conducts at least 6 meetings per year, with 4 being of technical content.
 
Student Section cooperates with the Faculty Advisor on all matters.
 
Student Section sponsors or participates in at least one community or campus involvement activity.

Note: All Student Sections applying for the Outstanding Student Section Award must meet all of the minimum criteria in order to continue into national competition. If student Section fails to include evidence for each annual minimum requirement the application will not be considered by the OSSA Evaluation Committee. Incorrect, unclear or missing information on the application will not be accepted after the due date. Please make sure your application is complete and clear. 

Judging Criteria

The following criteria will be used in the evaluation of applications for the award. New ideas, concepts, methods in campus activities, continuing education and research that enhances Section service will be rated highly.

*Outstanding Student Sections are not required to engage with the ASSE Foundation. Our aim is to gather information on how Student Sections interact with, and give back to, the Foundation, as this criterion will possibly be considered as a minimum requirement for future OSSA Awards.
