ASSE Foundation Scholarship Award Program

Applications closed for 2012

Undergraduate Awards:

  • Most undergraduate awards are for full-time students (enrolled in 12 hours or more per semester) pursuing an undergraduate degree in occupational safety & health or a closely related field.
  • Those that apply to part-time students (less than 12 hours per semester) are noted with a ☼
  • Those that apply to students pursuing an associate degree are noted with a ▲. Please refer to FAQ # 18 for more information.
  • U.S. citizenship is not required. In some cases, it is preferred.
  • Special restrictions are listed under each award.

America Responds Memorial Scholarship

One award at $1,000
Students who have experience working as an Emergency Responder will have priority on this award. Student must be a U.S. citizen.

Ann Music Streetman HSE Scholarship (sponsored by the Texas Safety Foundation)

One award at $2,000
Priority will be given to students residing in Texas or students attending a Texas university.

Applications International Corporation Scholarship

Five awards at $2,750 each
Priority will be given to students that have served in the military.

ASSE Construction Safety Scholarship

One award at $1,500
Priority will be given to students with an emphasis in construction safety, and enrolled in an ABET accredited OSH program.

ASSE Diversity Committee Scholarship

One award at $1,000
This award is open to any individual regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, personal beliefs, age, sexual orientation, physical challenges, geographic location, university or specific area of study.

ASSE Foundation Military Service Scholarship

One award at $1,000
Students that have served in the military will have priority on this award.

ASSE Oklahoma City Chapter Scholarship

One award at $1,000
Students attending University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, OK will have priority.

Bechtel Group Foundation Scholarship for Safety & Health

Two awards at $5,000 each
Priority will be given to students with an emphasis in construction safety attending Murray State in Murray, KY, Montana Tech in Butte, MT or Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA.

Bervin Hall Memorial Scholarship (sponsored by the Colorado Chapter) ▲ NEW AWARD

One award at $1,000
Priority will be given to Colorado Chapter members or to students attending school within Region II.

BCSP Scholarship – Rick P. Callor Technician/Technologist, Supervisory Scholarship

One award at $1,000

BCSP Scholarship – Pat L. Clemens Professional Scholarship

One award at $1,000

Blacks in Safety Engineering Scholarship

One award at $1,000
Priority will be given to black students.

Central Indiana ASSE Jim Kriner Memorial Scholarship

One award at $2,000
Priority will be given to Indiana residents attending school in Indiana or anywhere in the U.S. or to non-residents attending an Indiana university.

Charlie Darnell HSE Memorial Scholarship (sponsored by the Texas Safety Foundation) ▲

One award at $2,000
Priority will be given to students attending Texas State Technical College in Waco, TX pursuing an associate degree. Student must be enrolled in at least 12 semester hours and have completed 24 hours toward their degree.

CNA Foundation Scholarship

One award at $4,650
Students attending Keene State, Slippery Rock University or Texas Tech University will have priority.

Columbia-Willamette Chapter President Scholarship

One award at $1,000
Priority will be given to Columbia-Willamette chapter members, students attending school in Oregon or Washington state or to residents of Oregon or Washington state attending school elsewhere.

Flatiron Construction Christopher Gonzalez Memorial Scholarship

One award at $4,700
Priority will be given to students with an emphasis in construction safety.

Four Corners Chapter Scholarship – NEW AWARD

One award at $1,000
Priority will be given to students from the Four Corner's Chapter, a New Mexico or Colorado Chapter member or from a student that resides in R2 (in that order).

George Gustafson HSE Memorial Scholarship (sponsored by the Texas Safety Foundation)

One award at $2,000
Priority will be given to students residing in Texas or attending a Texas university.

Gold Country Section & Region II Scholarship

Priority will be given to students that reside within the Region II area.

Granberry, Fleming, & Ross Scholarship

One award at $1,500
Priority will be given to students that attend school within the Region IV area.

Greater Baton Rouge Chapter Don Jones Excellence in Safety Scholarship ☼ ▲

One award at $1,500
Priority will be given to students attending Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA, attending any college or university within Louisiana or within the southeast U.S. region (in that order). Students pursuing an associate or bachelor degree are eligible; however, ASSE general or professional membership is preferred if applicant is a part-time student.

Greater Boston Chapter Leadership Award

Two awards – one at $2,000 and one at $1,000
Priority will be given to members from the following chapters: Greater Boston, Connecticut Valley, Granite State, Maine, Nutmeg or Worcester County, or to any student who is a spouse or child of any ASSE New England chapter member, or to any ASSE student member that belongs to a New England student section.

Greater Chicago Chapter Scholarship

One award at $1,000
Priority will be given to students residing in or attending school within the Region V area.

Gulf Coast Past President's Scholarship ☼

Two awards at $1,500 each
ASSE general or professional membership preferred if applicant is a part-time student.

Harold F. Polston Scholarship (sponsored by the Middle Tennessee Chapter)

One award at $1,500
Priority will be given to students that belong to the Middle Tennessee Chapter, attending Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN, Murray State University in Murray, KY and those that live in the Region VII area (in that order).

Harry Taback 9/11 Memorial Scholarship

One award at $1,000
Preference will be given to a student that is a natural born United States citizen.

Heart of America Scholarship

One award at $1,000
Priority will be given to students attending University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, MO or Pittsburgh State University in Pittsburgh, KS or to those attending a university in KS or MO, or to those attending a university within Region V (in that order).

ISNetworld Scholarship

One award at $1,000
Priority will be given to students living in OK, TX, NM, LA or AK.

Janet Sprickman Award (sponsored by the National Capital Chapter) – NEW AWARD

One award at $1,000
Students from Region VI, IV, VII and VIII will have priority (in that order).

Jim & Tiffany Kreinbrink Scholarship

One award at $1,500

Keith Bain Scholarship (sponsored by the Middle Tennessee Chapter)

One award at $1,500
Priority will be given to students that belong to the Middle Tennessee Chapter, attending Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN, Murray State University in Murray, KY and those that live in the Region VII area (in that order).

Kittyhawk Educational Enhancement Scholarship ▲ NEW AWARD

One award at $1,000
Priority will be given to students attending Wright State University in Ohio.

Liberty Mutual Scholarship

Two awards at $4,000 each
Students may also be provided with the opportunity to attend a professional development conference related to safety.

Linda & Brad Giles Scholarship

One award at $2,000
Priority will be given to students attending a school with an ASAC/ABET accredited safety program. Students with a military background attending Murray State University, Oakland or Central Missouri University will have priority.

Marsh Risk Consulting Scholarship

One award at $1,000

New England Area Future Leadership Award

One award at $1,500
Priority will be given to students residing in the New England area, or the Region VIII area (in that order).

Northeastern Illinois Chapter Scholarship

One award at $2,000
Priority will be given to students that attend Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL, members of the NE IL chapter, regardless of school location, offspring of NE IL chapter members, regardless of school location or to students attending school in the northeastern Illinois region, defined as the area north of I-74 contained within the Illinois state borders.

North Florida Chapter Safety Education Scholarship ☼

One award at $1,000
Priority will be given to part-time or full-time students that belong to the North Florida Chapter, full-time students that attend any Florida college or university or to full-time students that attend an ASAC/ABET accredited program nationwide (in that order). ASSE general or professional membership is preferred if applicant is a part-time student.

PDC Scholarship (sponsored by the ASSE Practice Specialty Groups)

Two awards at $1,200 each
This scholarship provides a full Professional Development Conference experience including airfare, hotel, meals and registration for a safety organization. Students must apply and meet the basic criteria of an ASSE Foundation undergraduate scholarship.

Pekron Consulting/Greater Calumet Chapter Scholarship – NEW AWARD

One award at $1,000

Permian Basin Chapter Endowment

One award @ $1,000
Priority will be given to students that attend a school within the Region III area.

Puget Sound Chapter Martin Brown Memorial Scholarship ☼

One award at $1,000
Priority will be given to full-time students that belong to the Puget Sound Chapter. Preference will also be given to ASSE members (general or professional level) attending school on a part-time basis that belong to the Puget Sound Chapter.

Rixio Medina & Associates Hispanics in Safety Scholarship

One award at $4,000
Bilingual student (Spanish-English) required; Hispanic ethnicity preferred. Student attending an ASAC/ABET accredited safety program is also preferred.

Scott Dominguez - Craters of the Moon Chapter Scholarship ☼

One award at $1,000
Priority will be given to students that reside within the Craters of the Moon Chapter, Idaho and the Region II (MT, ID, WY, CO, UT, NV, AZ, NM) area (in that order). Students that are an employee or dependent of a sponsoring organization, serving the country through active duty in the armed forces or honorably discharged, a member of the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, FFA, 4H, etc. in previous years, recipients of awards from service organizations or have provided volunteer service to an ASSE chapter in a leadership role will also receive priority on this award. ASSE general or professional membership preferred if applicant is a part-time student.

SiteHawk Safety Scholarship

One award at $1,000

Southwest Chapter Roy Kinslow Scholarship

One award at $1,000
Priority will be given to students attending Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, OK or to any student from the Southwest Chapter area attending a school within the Region III boundaries.

UPS Scholarship

Four awards at $5,250 each
Students may also be provided with the opportunity to attend a professional development conference related to safety.

UPS Diversity Scholarship

Two awards at $5,250 each
Student must be of a minority ethnic or racial group. U.S. citizenship preferred. Students may also be provided with the opportunity to attend a professional development conference related to safety.

URS Safety Scholarship

One award at $6,000
Student attending school with an ASAC/ABET-accredited safety program is required. Student may also be provided with the opportunity to attend a professional development conference as it relates to safety and an internship that includes salary & living expenses.

Utah Chapter ASSE Scholarship

Two awards at $1,000 each
Priority will be given to students residing in Utah or Wyoming.

Valerie Overheul Distinguished Service Award Scholarship

One award at $2,000

Warren K. Brown Scholarship

One award at $1,000
Priority will be given to students attending Murray State University in Murray, KY or Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN.

West Florida Chapter Scholarship

One award at $1,000
Priority will be given to West Florida Chapter members or to students attending the University of South Florida.

William C. Ray, CIH, CSP Arizona Scholarship

One award at $2,500
Priority will be given to students residing in Arizona or within the Region II area.

Graduate Awards

Graduate awards are for full-time students (enrolled in 9 hours or more per semester) pursuing a graduate degree in occupational safety & health or a closely related field.  Those that apply to part-time students (3-8 hours per semester) are noted with a ☼.  U.S. citizenship is not required unless specified.  Special restrictions are listed under each award.

Clarion Safety Doctoral Scholarship NEW AWARD

One award @ $5,000 Priority will be given to a student with an EH&S communications background.

James P. Kohn Memorial Scholarship

One award at $1,000

Richard Buckley Doctoral Scholarship ☼ NEW AWARD

One award at $1,000 Priority will be given to students pursuing a PhD

Thomas W. Pollock Memorial Scholarship

One award at $1,000 Priority will be given to students pursuing a PhD with the intent to teach safety studies at the undergraduate or graduate level.

Thompson Scholarship for Women in Safety

One award at $1,000 Priority will be given to female students pursuing a graduate degree.

  • When applying for more than one scholarship – only fill out one application.
  • The same application should be used for both undergraduate and graduate programs. Please fill out the information that is relevant to your status.

Program Rules:

  • Incomplete or late applications will be disqualified.
  • Applicants must graduate in May 2012 or later to be eligible for any of these awards.
  • Previous recipients of ASSE Foundation scholarship awards are eligible to receive subsequent awards.
  • ASSE student membership is preferred and costs $15 per year. To obtain an application for student membership, contact ASSE's Customer Service department at 847-699-2929 or download the application at (link). Student membership applications must be received via fax or U.S. Mail only.
  • ASSE general or professional member is preferred if you are a PT student applying for a scholarship.
