Platform Statement

It is an honor for me to be nominated as the Region I VP. As a student getting my bachelors’ degree in Occupational safety and health, I joined ASSE as a student member in 1980. Since then I have served as chapter president (twice), Professional Development Conference (PDC) chair (twice), newsletter editor, treasurer, secretary and programs. I have been an instructor for ASSE PDC and SeminarFest for the last 10 years. In my opinion ASSE has greatly helped my career and professional development. My goals as the Region One VP are:

  • Share with all chapters the success stories as well as lessons learned from different chapters.
  • To work with each chapter to offer prep classes and study groups to increase the number of members that become certified (CSP, etc.). This is the wave of the future and we must become a resource for our members who want to become certified.
  • To work with each chapter to ensure that chapter officers are coaching their replacements for a smooth transition.
  • To contact current and past Region I VPs as well as current chapter presidents to find out what is working and what needs improvement.

As ASSE chapter president for the Greater San Jose Chapter I have attended many region one ROC meetings and know what makes for a good and effective region VP. I look forward to the opportunity to give back to the Society and our profession as your Region VP. As a passionate life-long safety professional and ASSE member/volunteer I ask for your vote and support.
