James Lange, MS, CSP, OHST, CRIS

Biography

James Lange, MS, CSP is currently serving as the Safety Engineering Technology Department Chair and Safety Training Instructor at Fox Valley Technical College, a not for profit public technical college located in Appleton, Wisconsin.  In this role, he is responsible for managing the Safety Engineering Technology Associate of Applied Science program, including program development, curriculum writing, and class instruction.  In addition to his duties in the academic program, Jim also conducts hundreds of hours of other customized safety training every year for numerous companies in Northeastern Wisconsin.

Jim is currently serving as the ASSE Region V Area One Area Director, having assumed the inaugural role in 2015. He has also served as Region V Deputy RVP since 2014 and served as President of the Nicolet Chapter from 2013-2015 and Vice President of the Nicolet Chapter from 2011-2013.

Jim has earned a Bachelor of Science in Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in Whitewater, Wisconsin, a Master of Science in Management and Organizational Behavior from Silver Lake College in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and a Master of Science in Occupational Safety from Southeastern Oklahoma State University.  He holds the Certified Safety Professional, Associate Safety Professional and Occupational Health and Safety Technologist certifications and was selected to take the beta version of the Safety Trained Supervisor-Construction.  He was named the ASSE 2015 Region V Safety Professional of the Year and a 2011 Rising Star of Safety by the National Safety Council.

Platform Statement

ASSE is, without question, the strongest Safety and Health organization anywhere.  This is because of the strong local chapters in ASSE throughout the world.  Very clearly, strong chapters make for a strong Society.  For many members, their local chapter is ASSE, and ensuring that each local chapter has the resources necessary to succeed is paramount.

It has been my privilege to serve as one of the inaugural Area Directors within Region V.  My proudest moments have been seeing the seven chapters within the Area collaborating and sharing best practices.  Each of these chapters have strengths, and it’s been very rewarding to see everyone share what makes their chapter great and the subsequent improvement.  This success was obvious with six of the seven chapters receiving recognition at the Gold level or above the past two years.

As the Region V Vice President, I would continue this collaboration among both Areas and all 15 chapters throughout the region.  I would work for what’s best for all chapters and to promote the profession for all members.  Strong members will result in strong chapters, areas, regions, and an even stronger Society.
