Donald L. Olesen, MBA, PE, CSP

 

BIOGRAPHY

Donald L. Olesen, MBA, PE, CSP is the Manager of Environmental, Health, Safety and Security for Sturm, Ruger, & Co., Inc. located in Newport, New Hampshire.

Don’s experience includes over thirty years in Environmental, Safety, and Health. He is responsible for instituting Ruger’s first comprehensive and formal Safety and Environmental program.

Don is a Licensed Professional Engineer and a Certified Safety Professional (CSP). He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Safety Engineering & Industrial Hygiene and his Master’s in Business Administration & Human Resource Management.

In his career, Don has worked on the industry and insurance sides of the safety discipline.  His efforts and direction have resulted in accident reduction, dollar savings and several awards for his employers and clients.

He began his involvement with ASSE in 1982, as a Student Member and has been a member ever since.  Don became a Professional Member of ASSE in 1988.  Don has been an active leader in both the Boston Chapter and the New England Area.  He was recognized as the Boston Chapter Safety Professional of the Year in 1995 and the Region VIII Safety Professional of the Year in 1998.  Don has also served as the 2014 and 2015 New England Area PDC Marketing Chairman.

He has served as an adjunct faculty member for Harvard University School of Public Health and Keene State College.

PLATFORM STATEMENT

Long recognized and respected as the premier organization for Safety Professionalism, ASSE has been the cornerstone for its members enhance their careers.  As an organization that offers professional development, career placement assistance, technical networking, and leadership development, ASSE must have key members willing to help in sustaining this good work. I am fully committed to taking on this responsibility as the New England Area Director.

As the New England Area Director, I will strive to enhance the development and education of our members through activities and the New England Area Professional Development Conference.  I will also work to enhance the participation of our membership in the areas of Chapter Meeting Attendance, Area PDC attendance, volunteer solicitation, leadership development, Student Chapter participation and networking enhancement.  I will also work with the Region Vice President to solidify the Region in the areas of participation and professional development.

Also as the New England Area Director, my goals will be to attend Chapter meetings throughout the Area, attend Regional Operating Committee meetings, Professional Development Conferences – both Area and Student Section.  I will also work to solicit volunteers to work on the Chapter, Area and Regional level to promote ASSE as the premier organization representing the Safety Profession.
