Platform Statement

Throughout my career in safety I fully appreciate ASSE’s value in my development as a safety professional.  I started my career in a time when ASSE involvement was mainly limited to attending local chapter meetings, and networking with other local safety professionals.  Those networking opportunities allowed me to broaden my knowledge base while building lifelong friendships.

While we have many ways to interact with other safety professionals today, the local chapter continues to serve a key role in developing a community of engaged safety professionals.    Local chapters face many challenges including developing quality programs, improving meeting logistics, increasing member engagement, meeting required deadlines, and identifying and developing future chapter leaders.  My goal as area director will be to help local chapters meet these challenges by developing a set of shared resources and best practices that all area chapters can use to meet these challenges.

If elected, I will make sure one of my highest priorities is to listen – particularly to the local chapters and their leadership.   As a liaison between area chapters and the region, the area director needs to be both a resource for and advocate for the local chapter, and the best way to accomplish that is to listen and learn.   By attending chapter meetings and student section meetings, I would look forward to hearing from both today’s professionals and our future safety leaders.

ASSE has been an important part of my development as a safety professional, and I welcome the opportunity to be able to serve the organization that has served me so well throughout my career.
