Administrator's Message: Construction Practice Specialty

Rick-ZellenI’m not sure where the summer went, but it’s been very busy to say the least.  For those of you who attended Safety 2017 in Denver, CO, I hope you had a great time. I know it was one of the best PDCs I’ve ever attended and hope you feel the same way.

As I write this, I can’t help but think of what our families, friends and associates are going through in Texas, Florida, and other areas affected by hurricanes. If you are one of the affected, I hope and pray that you are safe.  Please be aware of the security, safety and health hazards that come from these terrible weather events.

I am into the second year of my 2-year term as the Construction Practice Specialty Administrator and look forward to continuing to provide you good content and offerings throughout the year. We are planning our final four webinars with ClickSafety, our corporate sponsor. The next webinar is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, at 11:30 MST. If there is a specific topic you are interested in, please let an Advisory Committee member or me know. Speaking of webinars, if you missed the Aug. 18, 2017, OSHA update webinar with guest speaker Adele Abrams, Esq., CMSP, you missed a fantastic presentation. Fortunately, her slides are available on the Construction Practice Specialty website if you’d like to review them.

As of the end of July, our group has 3,710 members, a decrease of 88 from the previous month and a decrease of 106 from our peak in April 2017. There is likely no specific reason for this change, but I wanted to share this data with you. As with any member-driven society, our goal is to grow, and our group is no different. The goal we set last year is to grow the practice to 3,780 members, a gain of 2%. If someone you work with could benefit from ASSE membership, or specifically the Construction Practice Specialty, please invite that individual to attend the next member open web call on Nov. 17 or ask that person to contact me. Thank you for your support.

I can’t thank my fellow Advisory Committee members enough about the support they provide me in this role. This position would be impossible without their assistance.

If you have any questions or comments, I can be reached by email or by phone at (720) 737-8434.

Thank you for reading this message.

Rick Zellen, CSP, ARM, AIS, CRIS, STSC
Administrator, Construction Practice Specialty Administrator
