Rand McNally

Rand McNally is the Principal of McNally & Associates, Ltd.  He provides focused and balanced counsel to businesses based on more than forty years of experience and senior leadership.  His priority is on assisting great teams and leaders to produce meaningful and sustainable results to increase enterprise value.

McNally joined Hayes Brake, based in Mequon, WI, in April of 2000 as President and CEO. After more than fourteen years leading the business, McNally transitioned his responsibilities to a new President in Q3 2014.  He remains fully invested in HB and continues to serve as a Non Executive Director on the Board while helping others businesses and leaders improve their performance and exploring new interests.

Previously, McNally was a Senior Vice President with Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC), where he focused on the turn-around of marketing, sales, operations and technical services from December of 1998 through April of 2000. OMC transitioned from significant losses to profitability during his tenure and before eventually entering bankruptcy a year after his departure.

Through December 1998, McNally was an owner and senior executive of Aqua Chem, a Milwaukee, WI based holding company of thermal processing businesses.  He joined Cleaver-Brooks in 1988 as Vice President of Aftermarket Services when Aqua Chem was owned by Lyonnaise des Eaux, Paris, France.  In 1990, he became Senior Vice-President responsible for Worldwide Sales, Service and Marketing.  In 1994, McNally became Executive Vice President and General Manager of Cleaver-Brooks and assumed additional GM responsibility for Industrial Combustion in 1997.  His teams doubled revenue, tripled market share to a dominant 75% level and quadrupled earnings.  He was a key leader of a management buyout completed in July of 1997.

Prior to joining Cleaver-Brooks, McNally accumulated more than fifteen years of leadership experience with Caterpillar (1972-84) in various manufacturing, purchasing, information systems, marketing, sales, aftermarket services, human resources and general management positions with both the company and an independently owned dealer based in Philadelphia, PA, Giles and Ransome (1986-88).  During the mid-1980’s, McNally worked with McGraw-Edison on the Clarke Equipment (1984-85) turnaround as a GM and successfully implemented a rapid growth strategy for a small Philadelphia based, privately owned, manufacturing company named GRACO (1985-86), as the GM.

McNally attended Southern Illinois University majoring in Forestry for two years and received a B.S. in Accounting (1975) with honors and a M.B.A. (1977) with honors from Bradley University in Peoria, IL where he also taught various accounting and marketing classes for many semesters as a part time faculty member.
