WISE Mentoring Applications Due April 7

The mentoring program of ASSE's Women in Safety Engineering (WISE) Common Interest Group successfully connects today’s most talented and experienced mentors with aspiring mentees at any stage of their careers. These pairings are designed to encourage and empower mentees to more effectively advance their careers through alignment with identified business objectives, skill development, career option consideration and networking.

ASSE Kuwait Chapter Hosts Inaugural WISE Event

7126RMG_5305ASSE's Kuwait Chapter hosted its first WISE event with support from Chapter President Muhmmad Alamgir and the QHSE team at Kuwait Oil Co. Held Feb. 21, 2018, in Al Ahmadi, Kuwait, the event centered on the theme, "Women's Leadership Challenges in the Oil & Gas Sector."

Two speakers presented to attendees: Sarah Akbar, board member of Petrofac International, and Lucy Jean, HSE manager with Shell Kuwait. Akbar received the Global 500 Award from United Nations Environment Program and the Leader in Energy Award in 2009. Akbar and Jean discussed their career paths and experiences as women leaders in safety.

Sofia Val Esteban, environmental specialist with Technip E&C Kuwait, led the event planning effort and was mentored by WISE members Lesli Johnson and Karen LaRue (ChapterWISE), Jennifer Zipeto and Abby Ferri.
