ASSE TARGET TEEN WORK SAFETY TOOL KIT

In 2010, approximately 17.5 million workers under the age of 24 worked across the U.S. In 2009, thousands of teens suffered on-the-job injuries serious enough to send them to the hospital and 359 workers under the age of 24 died due to work-related injuries. 27 of those 359 young workers were under the age of 18. Young workers face many of the same hazards as adults on-the-job, but a lack of experience in the workforce and other factors make this demographic at a higher risk of being injured on-the-job. It is critical that young workers are aware of all hazards associated with their job tasks and are comfortable talking about safety with their employers, families and friends.

The American Society of Safety Engineers' Target Teen Work Safety Tool Kit is an informative and interactive tool designed to educate young workers, parents and employers on important safety information, rules and regulations they need to know to stay safe at work. These resources, developed by the ASSE Public Relations Committee, are for ASSE members, student members, teachers and friends to present in classrooms, at scout meetings, community meetings and many other venues for reaching young workers. Users may print or download the components of the kit and use all or part of the materials for presentations and distribution.

After reviewing the kit and its contents, if you have questions, please contact ASSE Public Relations team at dhurns@asse.org, Tstachura@asse.org, CNorgaard@asse.org or customerservice@asse.org.
