ASSE Honors Kendrick as Fellow

James "Skipper" Kendrick accepts the honor of ASSE Fellow at Safety 2009.

James “Skipper” Kendrick, CSP, was honored as an ASSE Fellow during Safety 2009. Nominated by their peers, candidates for Fellow are selected based upon their ASSE involvement and long-term contributions to the safety profession, something which Kendrick is no stranger to. With more than 30 years’ SH&E experience, Kendrick’s service includes ASSE president (2003-04); member of the Finance, Government Affairs, PDC Planning, Student Activities and Education Standards committees; Fort Worth Chapter president; and member of the ASSE Consultants, Management, Transportation and Risk Management/Insurance practice specialties. Kendrick received the Edgar Monsanto Queeny Safety Professional of the Year Award in 2000; NAOSH Champion Award in 2005 and 2006; and he was named one of the 50 most influential safety leaders by EH&S Today in September 2008.

“Skipper has represented the SH&E professional with honor and dignity,” says Frouzan Afsahi, CSP, REM, who nominated Kendrick. “Skipper’s easy-going character and personality are such that he has reached everyone who has attended one of his classes, seminars, lectures and numerous other safety-related conferences. He has a special gift to inspire others, to serve others.”

Richard Bourlon, P.E., CSP, ALCM, also nominated Kendrick for the honor. “[Skipper’s] character and personality are such that at any type of safety-related function, someone will have been touched by one of his presentations or classes. He draws people to him and is a person who others want to be around. This trait or character positively impacts all of us in the safety profession.”

Kendrick is currently a professional member of the Southwest and Forth Worth chapters and is the global director of EHS Training at Textron Inc. “To be allowed the privilege and honor to serve and then being honored for that service is a most humbling experience,” he says.
