Repaying an Investment

Tom Cecich has spent 36 years in the safety field, retiring from his position as vice president of EHS Global Business Support at GlaxoSmithKline in 2003. During his career, he worked for IBM and Allied Chemical and has had responsibility for safety, occupational health, environmental, fire protection, and emergency response activities. He is currently president of TFC & Associates, an SH&E management consulting firm, and he teaches courses in ASSE’s Executive Safety Management program.

Cecich has been involved in with ASSEF since its beginning. He was one of the original trustees in 1991, and has served on the ASSEF board twice. He has watched the Foundation grow and take an active role in furthering the SH&E profession.

“Back in those days, we’d ask for contributions and say ‘trust us, we are going to do good things with your money,’” Cecich says. “Now, 17 years later, we have developed a viable organization that really is doing good things with people’s money.” He adds, “When I joined ASSE in 1972, I was a young man, new to the field, who didn’t know much about safety except for some book knowledge. A lot of experienced professionals took me under their wing and mentored me. [Becoming part of the Legacy Trust] is a way to pay those folks back for their investment in me.”
