During this session, the authors will discuss the key takeaways from their chapter, look at some real-world applications, talk about new information and answer your questions.
Here are your panel of authors – and what they will be discussing:
- Joel Haight: Joel was the editor of the Safety Professionals Handbook. He’ll serve as moderator of the session and will discuss his chapter, Managing a Safety Engineering Project. At the end of Joel’s presentation, you should be able to:
- Apply traditional project management principles to any safety-related in order to ensure effective implementation in a resource limited business environment.
- Know where to go to find “how to” information on planning, scheduling, budgeting, cost tracking, and business decision making.
- Understand that elements of leadership, teamwork, conflict management, learning curves and resource allocation impact the implementation of a safety and health program in a resource limited business world.
- Kathy Seabrook: Kathy will be here to discuss Global Issues in Safety and Health Management. After Kathy’s presentation, you should be able to:
- Identify and communicate the challenges a multinational company faces in managing their safety and health risks.
- Understand and be able to implement strategies to manage workplace safety and health risks throughout their global organization.
- Jeffery Camplin: Jeff will discuss his chapter, Applied Science and Engineering – General Safety Management. After Jeff’s presentation, you should be able to:
- Recognize the key components to successful safety management
- Understand skill sets to gain attention and support of upper management
- List methods that demonstrate the value of sound safety management to the organization

About the Authors
Joel M. Haight, P.E., CIH, CSP received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial and System Engineering from Auburn University. He is an Associate Professor in Penn State University’s Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering. Prior to joining the faculty at Penn State, Dr. Haight worked as a safety engineer for the Chevron Corporation for 18 years. Dr. Haight conducts human error research and intervention effective research in multiple industries. He is a professional member of ASSE, AIHA, and the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, and has authored or co-authored more than 25 peer-reviewed scientific journal articles and book chapters.
Jeffery C. Camplin CPEA, CSP obtained a Safety degree in Industry and Technology from Northern Illinois University in 1984. He is currently President of Camplin Environmental Services, Inc., a safety and environmental consulting firm he founded in 1991. Prior to this position he was a senior consultant with ACM, Inc., and was also a Safety Coordinator for Cook County Hospital in Chicago.
Kathy Seabrook is president of Global Solutions, Inc. and Global Solutions International (UK) Limited. She has over 25 years of diverse safety and health management experience in both the domestic and international sectors, is a US Certified Safety Professional, UK Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Health and Safety and received a BS in Chemistry from James Madison University, USA.
