The IAQ problem is real and it is not going to go away. Indoor air problems have definitely made the jobs of engineers and facility managers more difficult and put owners at greater risk.
The focus of the updates in the new edition are in the chapters on filtration ("The Underutilized IAQ Asset"), building security and safety, operations and maintenance, and management procedures. The ASHRAE Standard 52.2-2007, "Method of Testing General Ventilation Air-Cleaning Devices for Removal Efficiency by Particle Size" is discussed in depth. The author also presents a decision paradigm for selecting, specifying and applying filtration and air cleaning equipment. Filtration is also discussed in lessening a commercial building's vulnerability to chemical or biological dangers. Specific recommendations for the selection and upgrading of air filtration systems is provided. In discussing preventive maintenance, the author provides a table illustrating how a traditional PM program can be modified to a specific equipment system.
The book includes glossary and a "Guidance Checklist for Design Documentation."
