Roger A. Wentz
Dear Mr. Wentz:
On behalf of the 30,000 American Society of Safety Engineer (ASSE) member safety, health and environmental professionals, I want to express the Society's support for the Roadway Safety Program that the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) has proposed to address key highway safety needs not currently met in the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century.
ASSE's mission is to assist our members in their professional efforts to improve workplace safety. One of the thirteen professional areas ASSE members join is the Transportation Practice Specialty. Given that traffic crashes are the number one cause of on-the-job deaths and that our nation's roadways increasingly are becoming a place for Americans to work, it is only fitting that we add our voice to your efforts. Making necessary improvements that will help address long-standing highway safety issues such as Run-off-Road crashes, intersections, pedestrians and bicyclists, and speed management can only help save American worker lives and reduce injuries.
Please be sure to let ASSE know how we can help ATSSA in its efforts, especially when it comes to making sure that Congress understands how improving highway safety is a vitally important workplace issue.
