RE: Inclusion of ASSE in SB 896

Dear Senator Marcellino:

On behalf of the more than 1400 members of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) in New York State, the Society thanks you for making sure that ASSE is included in the list of "authoritative bodies" in SB 896, the "Toxic Mold Protection Act," which you sponsored. This addition helps ensure that the widest possible safety, health and environmental expertise is available to help New York determine the best ways to address possible health risks from mold.

ASSE is sympathetic with legislators across the nation doing their best to find reasonable ways to meet their constituents' concerns over mold. The task is difficult because so little is known about the actual mold health risks. Our hope is that any legislative action taken be based on good science and involve accredited certified safety, health and environmental professionals with expertise in mold. To help ensure this result, our members stand ready to help in whatever way necessary.

Again, thank you for being responsive to our members' concerns. We look forward to working with you to ensure that New York finds the best means of addressing New Yorkers' concerns over mold.

Sincerely,

James "Skipper" Kendrick, CSP
President
