The Honorable Sarah Steelman, Missouri State Senator
Commerce and Environmental Committee
Missouri State Capitol Building, Room #433
Jefferson City, Missouri 65101

Dear Senator Steelman:

Thank for the opportunity to speak with you on January 3, 2001. During our conversation, we discussed the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and how we might be of assistance to you in developing safety, health, and environmental legislation. Of particular interest is your bill MO S.108, introduced on December 1, 2000 to create an Engineering and Science Academy and summer program for science teachers.

Enclosed is an ASSE Fact Sheet, which will give you a more detailed view, of our Society activities. Also enclosed is our monthly publication Professional Safety Journal. ASSE members serve on eight (8) American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Committees and/or projects. Each of our 148 chapters has Governmental Affairs Committee, which maintains a liaison with legislative and regulatory representatives.

We would welcome the opportunity to work with your and your colleagues in any way that we can. There are Chapters in St. Louis and Kansas City and Sections in Columbia-Jefferson City and Springfield. As the Regional Vice President over 9 states in our organization, I would be happy to be of assistance to you. Please contact me and we can set-up a meeting in Jefferson City, at your convenience.

Sincerely,

Jack R. Vetter, P.E., CSP
