RE: Recommendation of Gene Barfield as Member of NOSAC
Dear Commander Cushing:
The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), on behalf of its 30,000 member safety, health and environmental professionals, takes this opportunity to recommend to you Gene Barfield, CSP, as member of the National Offshore Safety Advisory Committee (NOSAC).
As Mr. Barfield's enclosed application and resume indicate, he is a member in good standing of ASSE and, most importantly, has served a lifetime dedicated to safety and safety training in the offshore oil and gas industry. Very simply, there is no more highly respected professional in offshore safety issues than Mr. Barfield.
Further, as his resume only hints at, Mr. Barfield has proven himself as a community, regional and national leader in advancing safety, whether through serving on boards of local safety association activities, the National Safe Kids Coalition, or teaching boating and hunting safety in his home state of Louisiana. Finally, Mr. Barfield is a leader of his profession, serving at the highest possible level as the current ASSE President whose term will expire in June 2005.
ASSE is committed to ensuring that government is well served and occupational safety, health and environmental issues are advanced by seeing to it that the best of our members are able to serve in government positions whenever possible and appropriate. Mr. Barfield will no doubt be able to bring a wealth of proven offshore safety experience to help NOSAC fulfill its mission of advancing offshore safety.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Barfield directly or Dave Heidorn, Manager of Government Affairs and Policy, at 847/768-3406 or firstname.lastname@example.org . Thank you for your time and consideration of Mr. Barfield's qualifications.
Jack H. Dobson, Jr., CSP
