Alliances and Affiliations

Advocacy

The American Society of Safety Professionals engages and collaborates with key stakeholders in the safety industry to advance safety in the workplace, and advocate for the safety profession.

Center for Safety and Health Sustainability

ASSP hosts and is a founding member of the Center for Safety and Health and Sustainability (CSHS), a global 501(c)3 nonprofit organization committed to advancing the safety, health and sustainability of the global workplace. It provides more than 100,000 occupational safety and health (OSH) professionals in more than 70 countries with a stronger voice in shaping sustainability policies.

International Network of Safety and Health Practitioner Organizations

ASSP is secretariat and a founding member of the International Network of Safety and Health Practitioner Organizations (INSHPO), a global alliance advancing the global voice of for the occupational safety and health profession. INSHPO is the creator and initiator of the OHS Professional Capability Framework and the initiator of the Singapore Accord.

National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health

ASSP and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) collaborate to advance the protection of workers, promote best practices, and encourage employers to develop and utilize OSH management programs and effective prevention strategies.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration

ASSP and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) have formed an alliance to create safer and healthier workplaces.

In addition to ASSP’s alliance with OSHA, many ASSP chapters have formed their own alliances with OSHA regional offices on issues of importance to these member communities. For guidance on that process, contact ASSE’s Government Affairs staff.

Memoranda of Understanding

ASSP also has memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with the following organizations:

  • American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA)
  • AISOHMEX, A.C. (Mexico)
  • China Occupational Safety and Health Association (COSHA)
  • Industrial Safety and Health Association of the ROC (Taiwan)
  • Nigerian Institute of Safety Professionals (NISP)
  • Singapore Institution of Safety Officers (SISO)

Through these MOUs, ASSP commits to collaborating with like-minded organizations in areas and on projects of mutual interest, including areas such as government relations and public policy, education and training, research and development of best practices, and outreach on key OSH issues. All of these efforts help ASSP remain at the forefront of helping occupational safety and health professionals protect people and property.
