Get Involved in the Training & Communications Branch
Annual Professional Development Conference (PDC)
Professional development is an easy way for members to get involved in the Training & Communications Branch. No prior experience is required. The following opportunities are available:
Attend the Practice Specialty Awards & Honors Luncheon
Be sure to register to attend when you submit your PDC registration in the spring.
Be a Speaker
We are always looking for members who wish to share their knowledge, ideas and experience in training and communications. The “Call for Speakers” is due each year to the Training & Communications Branch leadership by July 1 if you want the Branch to sponsor you.
Moderate a Session
The moderator ensures that the speaker is ready to present, provides a brief introduction of the speaker (provided by ASSE), gathers the presentation evaluations and presents a token of appreciation to the presenter on ASSE’s behalf.
Submit an Article to The Communicator
All members are encouraged to write for The Communicator e-newsletter. The newsletter editor gives careful consideration to all submissions. Do not worry if you have never written an article before—you have to start somewhere, and we are here to help you get published. Now is the opportunity to share your knowledge with other professionals.
Submit an Article to Professional Safety
The Branch can help you submit an article to Professional Safety. We can provide access to other published authors who can assist you and provide insightful review.
Join the Advisory Committee
The Advisory Committee is a group of dedicated professionals who give direction to our Branch. They meet regularly to discuss goal setting, assign responsibilities and approve actions to be taken. Current projects include the ongoing development of a Body of Knowledge, website expansion, newsletter content development and outreach to other professional associations and organizations.
Join an Administrative Committee
It takes many volunteers to make the Training & Communications Branch operate. Several committees provide valuable services each year. Why not donate some of your time to assist current volunteers in the administration of the Training & Communications Branch? Committees in need of volunteers include:
Awards & Honors—Assist in the selection of those dedicated volunteers who deserve recognition for their outstanding efforts.
Body of Knowledge—Act as a liaison to the Body of Knowledge by compiling information on publications, websites and experts in the areas of training and communications that any safety, health or environmental professional could use as a resource.
Membership—Help grow the Branch by promoting membership and assisting in marketing efforts.
Nominations—Support the future of the Training & Communications Branch by assisting with nominations for the new Administrator, Assistant Administrator and Publication Editor.
PDC—Oversee the submission of Training & Communications Branch submissions for speakers at the annual PDC.
Website—Participate in the continuing growth and enhancement of our practice specialty website.

Specialty projects are taken on by Branch volunteers as “Hot Topics” arise in our area of expertise. You can contribute to enhancing the Branch’s knowledge base by participating in a project or by suggesting a project for the Branch’s consideration.
