j-haightJoel Haight is currently an Associate Professor and Director of the Safety Engineering Program at the University of Pittsburgh. He hasserved the Engineering Practice Specialty for many years as a Professional Member and an Advisory Board member, providing guidance and advice to young engineers and safety professionals.  His efforts led to an increase in Engineering Practice Specialty membership.

He has recently spent a large amount of his time working with the ASSE Foundation, actively supporting their goals and sharing their mission in the ASSE PDC Exhibit areas.  Joel has been a passionate member of the Safety community and ASSE for many years and still works to share his knowledge and experience with the next generation of safety professionals.

Joel is active within the society and within CoPS. He is focused on improving the Society, himself, and others by providing his greatest consideration and influence on students entering the safety arena.

His research interests are in human error, process optimization, and intervention effectiveness research. He has published more than 30 peer‐reviewed scientific journal articles and book chapters and is a co‐author and the editor‐in‐chief of The Safety Professionals Handbookpublished by ASSE,and the Handbook of Loss Prevention Engineering published by John Wiley & Sons.These last two publications led to opportunities for other Engineering Practice Specialty Advisory Committee members to become published and add to their own careers.
