CPS Mentoring Program Introduction

The goal of the CPS mentoring program is to connect mentors with mentees, resulting in learning and growth for both partners. This pairing is designed to assist CPS members to gain knowledge and skills in business acumen and consulting skills.

Who Needs a Mentor?

Anyone interested in advancing their career and achieving business success as a consultant! CPS is particularly motivated to match new safety, health and environmental (SH&E) professionals in consulting with experienced SH&E consultants. So if you can answer yes to any of the questions below, we can help you.

  • Are you starting or wanting to grow a consulting business?
  • Do you want to grow your existing business?
  • Are you looking to expand your knowledge and experience?

How Does the Mentor-Mentee Process Work?

Think about your goals. What do you want out of this relationship? Talk to other people in your profession to get some ideas from them.

How To Become A Mentee

Complete the application, giving as many specifics as you can. This will help match you with a mentor. Applications are accepted throughout the year. Matches are made in March and September. Submit your application online to The CPS Mentorship Team.

The CPS mentorship team will examine your application and set up a mentoring match for you.

You will be notified of your mentor’s name and contact information. Mentees should commit to at least 1 hour per month for this process.

The rest is up to you.

How to Become a CPS Mentor

Submit your application online to The CPS Mentorship Team. We are looking for experienced consultants who want to help give back to the profession.

Mentors should commit to at least 1 hour per month to have a meeting with the mentee. Meetings can be via the phone, by email or in person.

Guidelines

  • Confidential: All information exchanged between matched pairs for mentoring will be held in strict confidence. Your application will not be viewable to anyone outside the committee.

  • Regular Meetings: The mentee will set up regular times to meet that are at your convenience. These can be in person, on the phone or via e-mail/instant message.

  • Individual Development Plan (IDP): An IDP will be jointly developed between the mentee and mentor to guide the process and build success.

  • 6-month Program: Teams will be matched for 6 months with an option to extend for 6 more months if both parties agree. Commit to 1 hour per month.

  • Jobs: There is NO expectation that mentors provide job or business opportunities for mentees – just life lesson, advice, coaching and mentoring.
