The Academics Practice Specialty (APS) promotes the advancement of occupational, safety and health education, fosters the well-being of its members and their academic programs and mentors students within their academic specialties. APS also strives to influence educational strategies and research, accreditation and professional certification as well as national and international academic research. APS publishes the peer-reviewed Journal of SH&E Research (JSHER) twice per year (see sample article below). APS also sponsors sessions and an Academic Forum at ASSE's annual Professional Development Conference.

ASSE Professional Development Conference & Exposition
ASSE’s Academics Practice Specialty will host its Seventeenth Academic Forum at the Professional Development Conference in San Antonio on Sunday, June 3, 2018. The Forum is open to all Academics Practice Specialty Members or full time Safety, Health and Environmental academicians and researchers.
The theme is always, “The Best in OSH Education!” The Forum offers a great opportunity to stimulate the exchange of ideas concerning OSH education practices!
Proposals are being accepted for either individual presentations or panel discussions. Areas of focus for the forum are as follows:
Best Practices in Interactive Tools and Teaching Aids: Engaging Students in Research, Balancing Teaching and Research Duties, etc.
Research in OSH Performance Metrics
Examples of Teaching Modes: Flipping, Active Learning, Use of Case Studies, Teaching “Hands-on” Components of OSH Online, etc.
Mentoring and Networking within the APS
