On Sept. 26, 2017, OSHA announced its preliminary list (as of Sept. 5, 2017) of the 10 most frequently cited workplace safety violations for the 2017 fiscal year. Patrick Kapust, deputy director of OSHA’s Directorate of Enforcement Programs, presented the list during the 2017 NSC Congress & Expo in Indianapolis, IN.

The rankings do not vary much year to year, although this year's violation number nine, “Fall Protection Training Requirements (1926.503),” is new to the list. NSC's Deborah Hersman believes the OSHA top 10 is not just a rankings system, but a blueprint for keeping workers and workplaces safe. Topping the list again this year are fall protection (1), hazard communication (2) and scaffolding (3). Electrical-wiring methods dropped one spot to number 10, while electrical-general requirements fell from the top 10. View the full list here.
