AMERICAN SOCIETY OF SAFETY ENGINEERS’
MEMBERS GIVE THOUSANDS IN MINUTES,
BOSTON SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT GIVES BACK IN BIG WAY

LAS VEGAS, NV (June 8, 2004) - In 1997 Michael Murray received the first American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Foundation scholarship for graduate students while a student at Keene State University in New Hampshire studying Occupational Safety and Chemical Dependency. He went on to graduate school at Northern Illinois University earning a Master's in Industrial Management with a concentration in Risk Management and Ergonomics. Seven years later, Murray, joined by several other members of the Boston Chapter, presented a donation for $15,000 to the ASSE Foundation during the annual House of Delegates meeting held June 7 here in Las Vegas.

“The ASSE Foundation, ASSE and its members have greatly helped me over the years,” Murray said Monday. “It's time to give back.” Murray was also an ASSE student member in 1997 and is now the director of casualty risk control for AON Risk Services Inc. of New York.

Murray and the Boston Chapter members joined 22 other ASSE chapter representatives from around the country who, in 10 minutes, gave $48,975 in scholarship donations to the ASSE Foundation. ASSE chapters providing donations included those from the states of Alaska, Illinois, Virginia, Hawaii, Alabama, New York, Texas, California, Tennessee, Oregon, North Carolina, Ohio, Maryland, Nevada, and Colorado. The ASSE House of Delegates meeting was part of the ASSE Professional Development Conference (PDC) and Exposition being held at the Las Vegas Convention Center and Hilton June 7 – 10 where 3800 occupational safety, health and environmental practitioners are attending.
