ASSE MEMBERS STAND BEHIND FUTURE OF SAFETY PROFESSION

DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS (November 14, 2001) - In just one week members of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) joined together to raise $8,179 for its Foundation to help advance research, education and safety and health development in the public interest. The funds, which will be used for safety research, scholarships, fellowships, internships and professional development, were raised by ASSE members, chapters, regions and board members during its annual Leadership Conference held October 24-26 in Rosemont, IL.

ASSE's annual Leadership Conference, which this year had a total of 83 attendees from around the U.S., provided ASSE members with ways to build effective leadership skills as well as a chance to interact and network with ASSE's top elected officers and staff leaders.

The silent auction held at the conference raised over $500 for the recently established "America Responds Fund", which is a scholarship established in memory of the ASSE members lost in the September 11th attacks.

The Foundation is committed to ensuring the future of the occupational safety and health profession by providing financial resources to individuals and organizations. Each year the Foundation awards funds for applied safety research, scholarships, fellowships, internships and professional development. Applications for these awards are available on-line at www.asse.org/foundat.htm. Funding for the Foundation comes from corporations and ASSE members - individual and through chapters countrywide.

Founded in 1911 and celebrating its 90th anniversary, ASSE is the oldest and largest professional safety and health organization and is dedicated to protecting people, property and the environment. Its over 30,000 members manage, supervise, and consult on safety, health and environmental issues in industry, insurance, government and education.
