NEW MEXICO RESIDENTS DONATE TO
PROFESSIONAL SAFETY SCHOLARSHIPS
DES PLAINES, IL (April
22, 2003) - Based in New Mexico, the Four Corners Section of the American
Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) recently presented the ASSE Foundation
with $500 for college scholarships. The donation will be used for the "Gold
Country Section and Region II Scholarship" fund for undergraduate and
graduate students pursuing a degree in the occupational safety, health and
environmental field.
The ASSE Four Corners Section has members throughout McKinley, Rio Arriba
and San Juan counties. The section is part of the New Mexico Chapter, which
was established in 1956 and currently has 420 members throughout New Mexico.
Established by the ASSE Foundation, the annual scholarship is named after
the ASSE Gold Country Section, which is part of the ASSE Sierra Nevada Chapter
based in Reno, NV. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an ASSE student
member and priority will go to students residing in ASSE's Region II area;
Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.
The recipient of the first-ever Gold County Section and Region II Scholarship
will be announced this April and presented June 24 at ASSE's annual Professional
Development Conference and Exposition in Denver, CO.
Chartered in 1990, the ASSE Foundation is committed to ensuring the future
of the occupational safety and health profession by providing financial
resources to individuals and organizations. This year the Foundation will
award nearly $50,000 in annual scholarships to occupational safety, health
and environment college students. Funding for the Foundation comes from
corporations and voluntary donations from ASSE members - individual and
through chapters countrywide for applied safety research, scholarships,
