UPS Donates $35,000 to American Society of Safety Engineers
Foundation for Occupational Safety and Diversity Scholarships

Georgia-based United Parcel Service (UPS) Foundation today donated $35,000 to the American Society of Safety Engineers Foundation (ASSEF) for occupational safety and health scholarships. UPS Corporate Health and Safety Manager Keith Jones presented the check to ASSE Executive Director Fred Fortman today at ASSE's headquarters in Des Plaines, IL. Jones was joined by fellow UPS representative Gerry Eaker of Aurora, IL.

      Keith Jones said, "UPS is proud to partner with the ASSEF in providing college scholarships to students in the field of occupational safety and health, and also with their mission of helping ensure the safety and well being of all workers everyday."

      The UPS Foundation's donation will provide up to six scholarships of $5,250 each for their traditional undergraduate program for juniors and seniors pursuing a degree in occupational safety and health, and for the UPS Diversity Scholarship Program for minority students in the field of occupational safety and health. The UPS gift to the ASSEF reflects a 40 percent increase over last year. Since 1996 the UPS Foundation has donated a total of $156,250 to the ASSEF, providing funds for 29 occupational safety and health scholarships.
