SAFETY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT GRANTS AVAILABLE
AR, OK, TX DONATE TO ASSE FOUNDATION'S GRANT FUND

DES PLAINES, IL (September 17, 2002) - Recognizing the continuing need for professional development in the safety profession, the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Foundation recently announced the second annual Delmar E. Tally Professional Development Grant available for ASSE members seeking to enhance their professional skills. A total of $1,000 is available each year for occupational safety, health and environmental professionals from the grant program funded by ASSE members Delmar E. Tally, P.E., CSP, and Betty Tally, CSP, CHST, OHST, of Austin, TX.

ASSE Region III Vice President Michael Thompson, CSP, of Houston TX, recently presented a $1,275 donation to the fund, which was raised at Region III's annual golf outing this past August in Addison, TX. Region III consists of nearly 4,000 members in ASSE chapters throughout Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas. In addition, the ASSE Central Texas Chapter, based in Austin, TX, recently donated $500 in honor of the Tally's dedication to professional development.

The Tallys donated $11,500 to the grant program and nearly $21,500 in total to the ASSE Foundation since 1990. Del served as 1985-1986 ASSE national president and received ASSE's highest honor, Society Fellow in 1997. Betty served as Central Texas Chapter president.

The Foundation is accepting grant applications from now until December 1, 2002, and the winners will be posted on the Foundation's website by April 1, 2003.
