CALIFORNIA SAFETY PROFESSIONALS DONATE TO ASSE FOUNDATION

DES PLAINES, IL (September 17, 2002) - The American Society of Safety Engineers' (ASSE) San Diego and Central Valley Chapters recently donated a total of $400 to the ASSE Foundation for research, education and professional development programs in the occupational safety, health and environmental field.

The San Diego Chapter of ASSE, with over 260 members throughout San Diego and Imperial counties, donated $300 to the Foundation.

"We present this donation to the ASSE Foundation to help provide scholarships to the next generation of safety and health professionals, as well as to continue much needed research in occupational safety and health," said San Diego Chapter president Leith Crossland of San Diego, CA.

Based in Fresno, CA, ASSE's Central Valley Chapter, with members throughout Fresno, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced and Tulare counties, presented a $100 donation to the Foundation.

"We proudly support the Foundation's work in research, professional development and education in creating a safer workplace for all," said Central Valley Chapter president Ward Scheitrum of Selma, CA.

Chartered in 1990, the ASSE Foundation is committed to ensuring the future of the occupational safety and health profession by providing financial resources to individuals and organizations. Funding for the Foundation comes from corporations and voluntary donations from ASSE members - individual and through chapters countrywide for applied safety research, scholarships, fellowships, internships and professional development.

This year the Foundation will award nearly $50,000 in annual scholarships to occupational safety, health and environment students. The Foundation is accepting scholarship applications from now until December 1, 2002.
