ASSE's Baton Rouge Chapter recently presented $7,500 to the Foundation this past June at ASSE's annual conference in Nashville, TN, to help establish the scholarship program. Over the past year, the chapter has raised $10,000 for this fund. Don Jones, CSP, P.E., of Baton Rouge, LA, serves as safety manager and global expert partner at the Dow Chemical Company. Jones has remained an active ASSE member, at the national, regional and chapter level. He currently serves as ASSE's Practices and Standards Council vice president and as administrator of the ASSE Management Practice Specialty. He also served various positions with the Greater Baton Rouge Chapter, including chapter president. He received ASSE's Edward Monsanto Queeny Safety Professional of the Year (SPY) Award in 2001. In addition, Jones chairs the Southeastern Louisiana University Safety and Health Advisory Committee. The Foundation will award nearly $50,000 in annual scholarships this year for students pursuing a degree in the occupational safety, health and environmental field. The Foundation is accepting scholarship applications from now until December 1, 2002.
