NEW JERSEY RESIDENTS DONATE TO OCCUPATIONAL
SAFETY AND HEALTH RESEARCH, SCHOLARSHIPS

DES PLAINES, IL (August 15, 2002)- Helping support further advancements in the occupational safety, health and environmental field, the American Society of Safety Engineers' (ASSE) New Jersey Chapter recently donated $5,000 to the ASSE Foundation for college scholarships, professional development and research programs. New Jersey Chapter president Joseph Schwed of Wharton, NJ, presented the donation to past ASSE Foundation Chair Edwin P. Granberry at ASSE's June conference in Nashville, TN.

Based in Newark, the New Jersey Chapter is one of the largest ASSE chapters, with over 600 members throughout central and northern New Jersey. For more information on the New Jersey Chapter visit www.njasse.org.

Chartered in 1990, the ASSE Foundation is committed to ensuring the future of the occupational safety and health profession by providing financial resources to individuals and organizations. Funding for the Foundation comes from corporations and voluntary donations from ASSE members - individual and through chapters countrywide for applied safety research, scholarships, fellowships, internships and professional development.

This year the Foundation will award $48,000 in annual scholarships to occupational safety, health and environment students. Specifics on how to apply and qualify for the scholarships can be found at the ASSE Foundation's website at www.asse.org/foundat.htm under scholarship program or by calling 847-699-2929. The Foundation is accepting applications from now until December 1, 2002.
