DES PLAINES, IL (February
21, 2001) -- The American Society of Safety Engineers Foundation (ASSEF)
thanks the Metropolitan Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers
(ASSE), based in New York City, for its recent donation of $1,000.
Foundation Chair Edwin Granberry says use of the funds is unrestricted
and could go towards research, scholarships and professional development.
Chapter President Sheila Palmer, CSP, CFPS says the Chapter is "pleased
to support the ongoing work of the Foundation."
The Metropolitan Chapter is part of ASSE's Region VIII, which also consists
of Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey,
Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont. Granberry notes that 40-percent
of the chapters in the region donate to the Foundation, a higher percentage
than any other region. In addition, the Metropolitan Chapter has been
a supporter of the Foundation's Silent Auction. Last year it donated a
gift certificate to Tiffany's.
Through its programs the ASSEF is committed to ensuring the future of
occupational safety and health by providing financial resources to individuals
and organizations. Each year the Foundation awards funds for applied safety
research, scholarships, fellowships, internships and professional development.
The ASSEF was established in 1990 to provide professional development
and financial resources to qualified individuals and non-profit organizations.
The Foundation seeks to advance safety and health development and research
and education in the public interest.
Founded in 1911, the non-profit ASSE is the world's largest and oldest
professional safety organization. Its 33,000 members located throughout
the U.S. and the world, manage, supervise, research and consult on safety,
health, transportation and environmental issues in industry, government,
education and insurance.
