DES PLAINES, IL (June 3, 2002) -Based in Las Vegas, the Southern Nevada Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers(ASSE) recently donated $100 to the "America Responds Fund" in memory of those ASSE members lost in the September 11th attacks. Established by the ASSE Foundation, the fund has raised nearly $6,000 since September 11th. The funds will be used for college scholarships for students in occupational safety, health, and environmental programs.
Through its programs the ASSE Foundation is committed to ensuring the future of the occupational safety and health profession by providing financial resources to individuals and organizations. Chartered in 1990, the ASSE Foundation has raised nearly $260,000 over the past nine months from corporate and individual donors for applied safety research, scholarships, fellowships, internships and professional development. This June at ASSE's annual Professional Development Conference and Exhibition in Nashville, TN, the Foundation will award 15 scholarships to occupational safety and health students across the country, two research fellowship awards, two professional development grants and 14 awards for innovative research ideas. Funding for the Foundation comes from corporations and voluntary donations from ASSE members - individual and through chapters countrywide.
