DISPLAY DEDICATION TO RESEARCH, EDUCATION

DES PLAINES, IL (May 9, 2002) - The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Region IV recently donated $5,000 to the ASSE Foundation for research, education and professional development in occupational safety and health. Consisting of 25 ASSE chapters throughout Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, Region IV is an outstanding Foundation supporter, donating an additional $1,500 last July. The region plans to raise a total of $10,000 to establish the ASSE Region IV - Edwin P. Granberry Jr. Scholarship, honoring current Foundation Chair Edwin P. Granberry of Winter Park, FL.

Through its programs the ASSE Foundation is committed to ensuring the future of the occupational safety and health profession by providing financial resources to individuals and organizations. Chartered in 1990, the ASSE Foundation has raised nearly $210,000 over the past nine months from corporate and individual donors for applied safety research, scholarships, fellowships, internships and professional development. This June at ASSE's annual Professional Development Conference and Exhibition in Nashville, TN, the Foundation will award 15 scholarships to occupational safety and health students across the country, two research fellowship awards, two professional development grants and 14 awards for innovative research ideas. Funding for the Foundation comes from corporations and voluntary donations from ASSE members - individual and through chapters countrywide.

Founded in 1911 and celebrating its 90th anniversary, ASSE is the oldest and largest professional safety organization and is dedicated to protecting people, property and the environment. Its over 30,000 members manage, supervise, and consult on safety, health and environmental issues in industry, insurance, government and education.
