DES PLAINES, IL (May 9, 2002) - Based in Newark, the New Jersey Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) recently donated $150 to the ASSE Foundation for education, research and professional development in occupational safety, health and environment. The chapter donated an additional $200 to the Foundation over the past nine months.

With over 580 ASSE members, the New Jersey Chapter is one of the largest ASSE chapters, maintaining a strong presence throughout central and northern New Jersey. For more information on the New Jersey Chapter visit www.njasse.org.

Through its programs the ASSE Foundation is committed to ensuring the future of the occupational safety and health profession by providing financial resources to individuals and organizations. Chartered in 1990, the ASSE Foundation has raised nearly $210,000 over the past nine months from corporate and individual donors for applied safety research, scholarships, fellowships, internships and professional development. This June at ASSE's annual Professional Development Conference and Exhibition in Nashville, TN, the Foundation will award 15 scholarships to occupational safety and health students across the country, two research fellowship awards, two professional development grants and 14 awards for innovative research ideas. Funding for the Foundation comes from corporations and voluntary donations from ASSE members - individual and through chapters countrywide.

Founded in 1911 and celebrating its 90th anniversary, ASSE is the oldest and largest professional safety organization and is dedicated to protecting people, property and the environment.
