DES PLAINES, ILLINOIS (March 14, 2002) - Based in Palm Beach, FL, the Gold Coast Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) recently donated $1,000 to the "America Responds Fund" in memory of those ASSE members lost in the September 11th attacks. Established by the ASSE Foundation, the fund has raised almost $6,000 since September 11th, marking the six-month anniversary of the tragedy. The funds will be used for college scholarships in occupational safety, health and environment programs.
The ASSE Gold Coast Chapter has displayed its commitment to the safety profession and the community through its work with ASSE and the Foundation. With over 90 members, the chapter covers eight counties in Florida, including the Palm Beach, Glades, Hendry, Highlands, Martin, Broward, Okeechobee and St. Lucie counties.
Through its programs the ASSE Foundation is committed to ensuring the future of the occupational safety and health profession by providing financial resources to individuals and organizations. This June the Foundation will award a wide variety of scholarships to occupational safety and health students across the country. Each year the Foundation awards funds for applied safety research, scholarships, fellowships, internships and professional development. Funding for the Foundation comes from corporations and voluntary donations from ASSE members - individual and through chapters countrywide.

Its over 30,000 members manage, supervise, and consult on safety, health and environmental issues in industry, insurance, government and education.
