DES PLAINES, IL (February
7, 2001) -- The American Society of Safety Engineers Foundation (ASSEF)
received a $250 grant from its Low Country Chapter in Charleston, South
Carolina, according to Foundation Chair Edwin Granberry.
Chapter President Jim Brown says the Chapter voted unanimously at its
January meeting "to support the excellent work of the Foundation through
a monetary donation." The Chapter requests its gift be used "to support
an ongoing or future research project in the area of workplace violence,
including research to advance the prevention of injury due to violence
in public schools."
Brown also noted, "we are a small chapter with only 83 members, however,
our hearts are big."
Through its programs the ASSEF is committed to ensuring the future of
occupational safety and health by providing financial resources to individuals
and organizations. Each year the Foundation awards funds for applied safety
research, scholarships, fellowships, internships and professional development.
The ASSEF was established in 1990 to provide professional development
and financial resources to qualified individuals and non-profit organizations.
The Foundation seeks to advance safety and health development and research
and education in the public interest.
