PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT GRANTS IN SAFETY AND HEALTH AVAILABLE THROUGH AMERICAN SOCIETY OF SAFETY ENGINEERS FOUNDATION

     DES PLAINES, IL (October 4, 2005) — The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Foundation recently announced the funds available through the Delmar E. Tally Professional Development Grant. The grant program provides assistance to ASSE members as they advance their occupational safety, health and environmental careers through certification study courses, professional development seminars and educational conferences.

The Delmar E. Tally Professional Development Grant was established by ASSE members Del and Betty Tally of Austin, TX. Del Tally, P.E., CSP, served as 1985-1986 ASSE national president and past Foundation Chair. He also received ASSE's highest honor, Society Fellow, in recognition of his dedication and support of the safety profession. Betty Tally, CSP, CHST, OHST, previously served as president of ASSE's Central Texas Chapter.

Nearly $10,000 in educational grants was awarded to ASSE members since the programs inception in 2001. The grants range from $250 to $1,500 awards, and applications must be postmarked by December 1, 2005. Grant applicants must be an ASSE member, and they must complete an application stating how a grant can help with their continuing education efforts in the occupational safety, health and environmental profession. The grants will be awarded during ASSE''s annual Professional Development Conference and Exposition June 2006 in Seattle, WA.
