DES PLAINES, IL (February 1, 2005) - Supporting occupational safety and health through higher education scholarships, the San Francisco-based Bechtel Foundation recently donated $10,000 to the American Society of Safety Engineers Foundation (ASSEF). This contribution will fund the Bechtel Foundation Scholarship Program for Safety and Health, which annually awards a $3,000 scholarship to an undergraduate pursuing a career in construction safety and health.
ASSE Foundation Chair Kennith D. Brock, CSP, said, "The ASSE Foundation appreciates the efforts of Bechtel in supporting tomorrow's safety and health professionals in construction. Bechtel's continued efforts have helped the ASSE Foundation with its mission of advancing the safety and health profession through education, professional development and research."
The Bechtel Foundation Scholarship for Safety and Health will be awarded to a student this June during ASSE's annual conference in New Orleans, LA. Each year eligible students can submit their scholarship applications to the ASSE Foundation from September through December. Applicants must be full-time students pursing a B.S. in Occupational Safety and Health with an emphasis on construction safety or a related field. Applicants must be student members of ASSE, have a GPA of 3.0 out of a 4.0 system, have a good academic standing, and be recommended by a safety faculty member.
