AMERICAN SOCIETY OF SAFETY ENGINEERS FOUNDATION
DES PLAINES, IL ( September 29, 2004) – Supporting continuing education in the occupational safety, health and environmental profession, the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Foundation recently announced this year's funds available through the Delmar E. Tally Professional Development Grant Program. Over $4,000 will be awarded to ASSE members seeking to enhance their careers in safety through certification study courses, professional development seminars and educational conferences. This is the fourth year this program will be offered and grants will be awarded in June 2005 during ASSE's Professional Development Conference and Exposition in New Orleans, LA. The grants range from $250 to $1,500 awards, and grant applications must be postmarked by December 1, 2004. The Delmar E. Tally Professional Development Grant was established by Betty Tally, CSP, CHST, OHST, who previously served as president of ASSE's Central Texas Chapter, and Del Tally, P.E., CSP, who served as 1985-1986 ASSE national president and past Foundation Chair. In 1997, Del received ASSE's highest honor, Society Fellow, recognizing his dedication and support of the safety profession. Del and Betty Tally recently donated another $2,000 to this endowed grant fund, increasing the number of grants to be awarded. In addition, the professional development fund received $1,500 from ASSE's Region III, which consists of 15 chapters and 8 student sections throughout Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas. The region also donated $2,000 towards ASSE Foundation scholarships. All of the region's donations were raised by its members and attendees of the Region III annual conference held this past August. Chartered in 1990, the ASSE Foundation is committed to ensuring the future of the occupational safety and health profession by providing financial resources to individuals and organizations. Funding for the Foundation comes from corporations and voluntary donations from ASSE members - individual and through chapters countrywide for applied safety research, scholarships, fellowships, internships and professional development.
