NEW HAMPSHIRE'S KENNITH BROCK ELECTED TO CHAIR NATIONAL FOUNDATION
DES PLAINES, IL (June 24, 2004) - – New Hampshire's Kennith D. Brock, CSP, and senior partner for Strategic Safety Solutions, LLC, was elected this month to serve as trustee and chair of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Foundation Board by the Foundation Board. Brock succeeds Boston's Karl Jacobson, CSP, the senior vice president for loss prevention for Liberty Mutual Insurance Group who served as Foundation trustee for six years and chair for three years. Jacobson will remain on the Foundation Board for one more year as past chair. Cynthia L. Roth of Syosset, New York, was elected to serve as vice chair of the Foundation. She is chair and CEO of Ergonomic Technologies Corporation. The Foundation elections were held at its June 5 board meeting that took place in conjunction with ASSE's June 7-11 Professional Development Conference and Exposition in Las Vegas.
Additionally, Liberty Mutual Insurance Group's Vice President and General Manager of Loss Prevention J. Milton Goettee, ARM, CSP, of Boston, was appointed to serve on the Foundation Board. "Over the past six years we have seen a major increase in funding from our members, corporations and individual gifts and an expansion in the amount of awards we have given to those pursuing degrees and knowledge in the occupational safety, health and environmental field," ASSE Foundation Manager Mary Goranson said today. "We will miss Karl greatly, but also look forward to working with Ken and Milt. Their years of experience clearly illustrate how very committed these two professionals are to the occupational safety, health and environmental field and in helping others." The Foundation members also thanked outgoing Foundation Trustees Thomas E. Kimble, president of The Kimble Group Inc., and Carter J. Kerk, PhD, PE, CSP, CPE for their dedication and service while serving as Foundation trustees for six years. During their terms, they helped to raise over $1.7 million for the Foundation. Other Foundation Board Trustees include Stephen Bennett, managing director of Marsh; Thomas F. Bresnahan, CSP, principal associate Bresnahan Consulting Associates; Edward Bulakites, regional manager of safety, United Technologies-Otis Elevator; David G. Kraemer, PhD, chair – Department of Occupational Safety and Health at Murray State University; Fred Rine, CSP, founder and president FDRSAFETY; Valerie Overheul, president, CEO and founder of Summit Training Source, Inc. and ASSE Executive Director Fred J. Fortman, LLM, CAE. This year the Foundation awarded 23 safety, health and environmental scholarships to undergraduates and graduates.
