OHIOAN DONATES FUNDS FOR NEW OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY SCHOLARSHIP
DES PLAINES, IL (January
12, 2004) -- Aiding future professionals entering
the occupational safety, health and environmental field, Warren K. Brown,
CSP, ARM, CSHM, of Fairborn, OH, donated $5,800 this week to the American
Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Foundation to establish the 'Warren
K. Brown Scholarship.'
The newly formed 'Warren K. Brown Scholarship' fund will annually award
$1,000 to an undergraduate student pursuing an occupational safety, health
and environmental degree. A long-time ASSE Foundation supporter, Brown
has donated a total of $11,450 to the Foundation since 2000.
An ASSE member for 27 years, Brown is ASSE's vice president of Professional
Development. Brown co-founded ASSE's Kitty Hawk Section and Chapter in
Dayton, OH, and served as the chapter's president, vice president and
assembly delegate, as well as ASSE Region VII vice president. He received
the Safety Professional of the Year award from Region VII in 1989 and
from the ASSE All Ohio Council in 1987.
Serving as safety supervisor for DMAX, Ltd in Moraine, OH, Brown previously
served as lecturer II at Sinclair Community College, Dayton. He also served
as plant layout engineer, supervisor of safety and associate administrator
of safety at Delphi and General Motors. In 1988, Brown received the General
Motors Safety Fellow award, the highest General Motors individual safety
award. Brown earned an MBA from the University of Dayton and a B.S. in
Industrial Technology from Ohio University, Athens. In addition, Brown
served as Ohio Chapter president of the System Safety Society and president
of the Ohio Valley Section of the American Industrial Hygiene Association.
He currently serves as a member of the Society of Ohio Safety Engineers'
Pattern for Progress Committee and the Safety Advisory Committee for Sinclair
Community College, as well as a member of the Board of Directors and Program
Committee for the Dayton Miami Valley Safety Council. He is also active
in the National Safety Council (NSC) Industrial Division and served as
chairman of the Electrical Section and Engineering Standing Committee
and received the NSC Distinguished Service to Safety Award.
