FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TEXAS, OKLAHOMA, ARKANSAS SAFETY PRACTITIONERS DONATE TO PROFESSIONAL
DEVELOPMENT GRANT
DES PLAINES, IL (December
16, 2003) -- Supporting continuing education
in the safety, health and environmental profession, Region III of the
American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) recently donated $1,025 to
the ASSE Foundation's Del Tally Professional Development Grant. Region
III consists of 15 ASSE chapters throughout Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.
In
place of speaker gifts at their 30th annual Professional Development Conference,
Region III donated the funds on behalf of the 38 speakers who presented
this past August in Austin, Texas. The speakers included ASSE members
from Texas and Oklahoma, ASSE staff and occupational safety professionals
from Pennsylvania, Georgia, California, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Indiana
and also Canada.
Through
the Del Tally Professional Development Grant Fund, over $3,000 will be
awarded this year to ASSE members looking to advance their skills through
occupational safety, health and environmental certification study courses,
professional development seminars and educational conferences. The grant
fund annually awards $1,000 or more, and it has recently reached endowment,
so all donations will directly be awarded to members the same year. The
ASSE Foundation and ASSE members Delmar E. Tally and Betty Tally of Austin,
TX, established the fund three years ago to aid safety professionals with
continuing education. The grant application deadline ended this December
and the recipients will be announced by April 2004.
Chartered
in 1990, the ASSE Foundation is committed to ensuring the future of the
occupational safety and health profession by providing financial resources
to individuals and organizations. Funding for the Foundation comes from
corporations and voluntary donations from ASSE members - individual and
through chapters countrywide for applied safety research, scholarships,
fellowships, internships and professional development. For more information
