SAFETY SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABLE FOR SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

      DES PLAINES, IL (October 15, 2003) -- Supporting workplace safety in Louisiana, the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Foundation today announced the annual Greater Baton Rouge Chapter - Don Jones Excellence in Safety Scholarship for students at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA.

    The Foundation annually offers a $1,000 scholarship to a Southeastern Louisiana University undergraduate pursuing a degree in occupational safety and health or a related field. Undergraduates must be an ASSE student member, have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 out of 4.0, are currently enrolled as a full-time student with 12 or more semester hours, and have completed at least 15 semester hours.

    Over the past two years, the ASSE Greater Baton Rouge Chapter has donated $22,785 to the fund named in honor of chapter member Don Jones. Jones, P.E., CSP, of Baton Rouge, LA, serves as Regulatory Expertise Leader at Dow Chemical Company. He is an active ASSE member, serving as vice president of the Council on Practices and Standards and 2001 recipient of the Monsanto Queeny Safety Professional of the Year award. Jones also chairs the Southeastern Louisiana University Safety and Health Advisory Committee.
