DALLAS SAFETY PROFESSIONALS ESTABLISH COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP FUND

DES PLAINES, IL (August 26, 2003) --Supporting occupational safety and health education in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas, the Dallas-based Southwest Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) along with the ASSE Foundation today established a college scholarship fund for occupational safety, health and environmental college students.

This summer the Southwest Chapter donated $11,113 to the ASSE Foundation to help support this fund. The Southwest Chapter plans to raise additional funds for the Foundation through a birthday donation program, where chapter members can choose to make a donation on their birthday annually, with the amount based on their age. Over the next few years the chapter hopes to build endowment of the Southwest Chapter Scholarship Fund. Once endowed, the fund will annually award a $1,000 scholarship to a college undergraduate studying in the field of occupational safety, health and the environment.

The Southwest Chapter is part of ASSE's Region III, which consists of 15 chapters and 8 student sections throughout Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Formed in 1937, the Southwest Chapter has nearly 500 members throughout Dallas, Fannin, Grayson, Hunt, Kaufman and Rockwall counties.

Chartered in 1990, the ASSE Foundation is committed to ensuring the future of the occupational safety and health profession by providing financial resources to individuals and organizations. Funding for the Foundation comes from corporations and voluntary donations from ASSE members - individual and through chapters countrywide for applied safety research, scholarships, fellowships, internships and professional development.
