AMERICAN SOCIETY OF SAFETY ENGINEERS FOUNDATION
ANNOUNCES NEW TRUSTEES FROM CT, IL

      DES PLAINES, IL (May 19, 2003) --- The American Society of Safety Engineers Foundation (ASSEF) announced today two new Foundation Trustees; Stephen Bennett, ARM, of Wheaton, IL, and Ed Bulakites of Hartford, CT.

ASSE Foundation Chair Karl Jacobson said, "We welcome Stephen and Ed to our Board of Trustees, and look forward to working with them in advancing the safety profession through education, professional development and research."

Focusing on workforce strategies from behavioral services to ergonomics, Bennett serves as Managing Director for Marsh Risk Consulting. Bennett has worked in the safety profession for 22 years in such industries as retail, service, transportation and manufacturing. He received a B.E. in Electrical Engineering from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN. Bennett is a member of ASSE's Greater Chicago Chapter for 23 years and he is a member of the National Safety Management Society.

With over 20 years experience in safety, Bulakites was recently promoted to Regional Manager of Safety for United Technologies (UTC) - Otis Elevator Division in Chicago, IL, beginning June 1, 2003. He will lead the injury prevention efforts for the seven state Midwest region at Otis, implementing innovative hazard control methodologies and applying continuous improvement techniques to integrate safety into business. He previously served as UTC's Corporate Safety and Health Programs Manager, division level Safety Project Manager for its Pratt and Whitney Division, Safety Supervisor at Pratt's facility in East Hartford, CT, and Compliance Officer for Connecticut's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Bulakites is a member of ASSE's Connecticut Valley Chapter.

Chartered in 1990, the ASSE Foundation is committed to ensuring the future of the occupational safety and health profession by providing financial resources to individuals and organizations. This year the Foundation awarded nearly $60,000 in scholarships to students in occupational safety, health and environmental programs.
